SendFriend Using Ripple’s xRapid

Despite Cory Johnson’s exit from the organization, XRP prices are stable. Some experts believe that 2019 will be the year for Ripple (XRP) and it will reach again a price of $1 or more. Experts also believe that Ripple’s XRP prices will break the resistant levels as it invested in SendFriend – the next-generation remittance service provider.

On Feb 11, SendFriend that uses Ripple-backed xRapid service for cross-border payments announced that it had received the funding of $1.7M from big institutions like MIT Media Lab, Barclays, the Mastercard Foundation, Ripple, TechStars, Mahindra Finance, 2020 Ventures, and 8 Decimal Capital.

The declaration clearly shows that the world’s largest financial service companies and banking institutions like Mastercard and Barclays are planning to leverage the benefits of cryptocurrency especially Ripple.

As per the report, the funding has been raised for the betterment of Philippine and U.S. remittance market. The firm will use the funds to provide the seamless money transfer experience to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) that will enable them to send the USD to PHP securely at the minimal rate available.

SendFriend is in an association with blockchain organization Ripple. Through this partnership, SendFriend will use xRapid to provide the hassle-free experience of money transfer. XRP will be utilized as a liquidity resource for cross-border payments. By this, US Dollars will be converted to XRP, and XRP will be converted to Philippine peso in just a matter of seconds.

Furthermore, Western Union’s General Manager of Asia Pacific, Molly Shea declared that the company is preparing itself for the experiment with Ripple to check the possibility of settlements services through it. They are performing settlement tests to check whether Ripple can be used in certain corridors, especially with the US dollar and Mexican peso or not.

XRPL Labs

Moreover, Ripple’s fundraising arm – Xpring – has invested in XRPL Labs – a new company created by Wietse Wind with the purpose to create a decentralized exchange , mobile wallet and cold storage operating system.

Wietse is the one who created the viral XRP tip bot, which is used by users from Twitter, Reddit and Discord to send XRP one to another.

He is also the one which uploaded the XRP ledger into BigQuery – allowing the crypto-curious to browse transaction history and check important data about it. Xpring director – Vanessa Pestritto – declared the following about Wietse :

“At Xpring, we are focused on growing the ecosystems around the Interledger Protocol and XRP Ledger. To do so, we need to work with developers that share our vision of interoperable blockchains and new use cases for XRP.

One of those developers is Wietse Wind. Wietse not only has excellent past experience, but understands the protocols and technical details of both the XRP Ledger and Interledger Protocol…

Wietse is a proven entrepreneur and has successfully grown his companies organically. He has built a technology consulting company, which serves numerous clients ranging from larger scale companies to smaller offices. He’s also built and ran a software company that provided a platform as a service for rapid web development.

We are thrilled to announce that Xpring has invested in Wietse Wind’s XRPL Labs. His creative approach, leadership and ability to engage developers were key differentiators in our decision to invest.”

It appears that his first project related to Ripple, XRPtipbot, caught the attention of the Ripple’s staff. Thanks to that, Wietse will now work on developing new and interesting products for Ripple.
