Vitalik Buterin Awarded Three Ethereum Startups With $100,000 Each

Contrary to what his nickname on Twitter says – Vitalik Non-giver of Ether – Vitalik proved today that he’s a giver of Ethereum. No, it’s not the typical scam you see on twitter where people pretend to be starts to scam others. This is just Vitalik building Ethereum’s future the way he built Ethereum – winning a Thiel Fellowship for $100,000.

Three projects received 1,000 ETH grants today : Prysmatic Labs, ChainSafe Systems and Sigma Prime. These projects are among the 8 ones that are working to build the Ethereum 2.0. Sigma Prime is creating an Ethereum 2.0 client, Lighthouse. Prysmatic Labs are working on Ethereum scalability and ChainSafe are also trying to do an Ethereum 2.0 client.

This came as a surprise, in response to a Twitter thread where members of the Ethereum community talked about how the current technology could be improved. Most of the people claimed that inadequate funding was the reason for the slow development. Preston Van Loon, CFO of Prysmatic Labs and Software Engineer at Google claimed that even with recent grants, “it’s hardly enough to take the whole team full time with significant pay cuts and it’s certainly not even for us to scale the team to where we need it.”.  And Buterin replied:

Ameen Solaimani, CEO of SpankChain, also commented in the thread claiming that : “Ethereum has taken its lead for granted for too long (2 years). Needs increased focus and urgency on scalability to reclaim its narrative. Move fast or die slow.”

This leads us to the second grant – awarded to Sigma Prime. Their CFO, Paul Hauner, tweeted that the project has “been knocked back for a couple of grants recently. We can certainly turn 1k ETH into more developers!”

And the third and the last one went to Canada-based ChainSafe. Its Project LEad – Mikerah Quintyne-Collins tweeted:

And of course, Vitalik Buterin responded with the last 1,000 ETH donation and with a message for the team:

Sigma Prime & Prysmatic Labs have previously received donations from Ethereum Foundation. Prysmatic Labs got $500,000 in October 2017 and $100,000 in March 2017 while Sigma Prime got $150,000 in October 2018.

Its important to note that Vitalik Buterin awarded these companies because these needed help to build the Ethereum 2.0 future. This wasn’t a giveaway and you shouldn’t trust anyone impersonating Vitalik and asking for a donation to receive a bigger one. You’ll 100% lose your ETH that way.

In our opinion, these rewarded are well-deserved and hopefully will lead to better results for the future Ethereum 2.0.
